Swedish Armed Forces Chief of Joint Operations, Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Carl-Yohan Edström has led a 4-member delegation to the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Vice Admiral Seth Amoama in Burma Camp on Tuesday, 5 December 2023.
The delegation who are in the country partake in the maiden United Nations (UN) Peacekeeping Ministerial Conference, first of its kind to be held on the African continent, seized the opportunity to strengthen the bilateral relations between the Swedish Armed Forces (SAF) and Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
Lt Gen Edström expressed excitement for Ghana hosting the first UN Peacekeeping Conference in Africa and pledged to maintain continuous bilateral relations.
Vice Admiral Amoama expressed excitement over the honour done Ghana for being the first country on the African continent to host the UN Peacekeeping Conference. He highlighted Ghana's significant role as the 6th largest troop contributor to UN Ppeacekeeping, and eulogized the late Secretary General of UN, Kofi Annan for his contributions.
He noted that the long-standing relationship between GAF and SAF dates back to the colonial era, and expressed gratitude to the Sweden government for their support and made a case for further collaboration.
Members of the delegation were the Defence Staff Policy and Plans, Colonel Claes Bitterlieh, MA to the Chief Joint Operations of the Swedish Armed Forces, Commander Daniel Petrak and Legal Advisor, Paula Iwonowski.
