Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Dominic Ampomah has been inducted into office as Commanding Officer (CO) of the Ghanaian Battalion 11 (GHANBATT 11) serving the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) on Sunday 22 October 2023.

The ceremony, a sacred tradition of committing personnel and activities of the mission into the care of the Almighty God, also paved way for the consecration of Unit Colours at the induction Religious Parade held the GHANBATT Headquarters in Bentiu, South Sudan.

The ceremony held under the theme: “Unity in Diversity” marked the successful insertion of GHANBATT 11 into the Area of Operational Responsibility (AoR)

With a deep sense of humility and gratitude to God CO UNMISS GHANBATT 11 was grateful for the opportunity to serve the colours and noted that the Induction Service and Consecration of Colours was the climax of a series of ceremonial and religious activities that characterised the month-long period of transition between GHANBATT 10 and GHANBATT 11.

The CO reiterated that though he had received the Command Baton and the Pascal light, it was his utmost quest to begin the tour with God; quoting, Proverbs 3:6, which says “In everything you do, put God first, and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success”.

He registered his determination to maintain a disciplined and highly motivated GHANBATT with a sense of initiative and willingness to continue the legacy of GHANBATT 10 and undertake all assigned task with priority on force protection for successful accomplishment of mandate.

The Special Guest of Honor, the Sector Unity Commander, Brigadier General Emmanuel Rugazora, entreated Lt Col Ampomah to be astute, measured and focused on leading GHANBATT 11 on the path towards achieving mission success and pledged to support the GHANBATT to deliver on its mandate.

Other dignitaries present at the service were Senior Military Liaison Officer, the Deputy Sector Commander, the Commanding Officer of the Ghana Formed Police Unit, the Commanding Officer of the Vietnam Level II Hospital, representatives of Pakistan Engineering Task Force, the UNDSS, UNPOL, Staff Officers from Sector Unity Headquarters amongst others.
