The Physical Training School has held closing ceremony for the Assistant Physical Training Instructors Course 76 on Thursday, 30 November 2023 at the Addico Square, Whistler barracks in Teshie.

In all, a total of 101 students who graduated from the 15-week course were drawn from the Ghana Armed Forces, Police Service, Fire Service, Prisons Service and the Customs division of the Ghana Revenue Authority.

As part of activities to mark the graduation ceremony, the students covered 5 kilometers steeplechase race and climaxed it with gymnastics display involving head spring, split and roll, horse displays, individual performances and tricks among others.

The Guest of Honor for the ceremony, the Deputy Commandant Ghana Armed Forces Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Brigadier General Lawrence Gbetanu stated that the course was designed primarily to equip and assess the physical fitness, dexterity and agility, man management, strength, endurance of students, and most importantly the awareness of students in executing their day-to-day duties as physical training instructors.

He noted that with the emerging threat of terrorism coupled with modern day lifestyle, it has become necessary for personnel to exercise regularly to keep fit to meet any unforeseen circumstances. “As security personnel when the unexpected happens, it is you the nation will depend on to defend and protect its citizens. This demand that we must be physically fit at all times”, he said. He implored the graduands to assist in improving upon the physical fitness standards of men and women in their respective units.

He congratulated the students for a successful completion of the course and also expressed gratitude to personnel of the other sister security for their resilience and competitive spirit throughout the course.

Four categories of awards were presented to deserving students who excelled in the course. Corporal Boateng Emmanuel received the Overall Best Student award. Private Soldier Sumaila Mohammed Askanda was adjudged the Best in Gymnastics whiles the Best Allied Student award went to General Constable (G/CONT) Ofosu Benjamin from the Ghana Police Service. Ordinary Seaman(O/S) Ampong Mary received the Best Female award.
