The President and Commander in Chief(C-in-C) of the Ghana Armed Forces, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, has joined Ghanaians at the forecourt of the state house to honour the 8 Ghanaians who lost their lives in a helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking at the event on Saturday 9 August 2025, President John Mahama described the tragic event as unfortunate and labelled it a national tragedy. He revealed that the sad event has brought the country together as a nation beyond all backgrounds in shared grief and sorrow.

The C-in-C mentioned that the ultimate sacrifice, though painful, stands as a reminder for the citizenry to work tirelessly towards resetting the nation. He reechoed the need for sacrifices and the tireless determination make the society a better one.

He extended condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for strength and resilience for them to sail through these difficult times.

The 8 fallen heroes include the Minister for Defence Honourable Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Limuna Mohammed, Deputy Director General of NADMO Mr Samuel Aboagye and Vice Chairman of the NDC Mr Samuel Sarpong.

The rest were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manean Twum Ampadu and Sergeant Mensah Addo Ernest.

The President took the opportunity to also extend his condolences to the families of the 16 children who died in a car accident along the Accra-Kumasi highway last month.
