

The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) Ghana Battalion 4 (GHANBATT 4) has held an induction religious parade and consecrated colours of the unit at the Battalion Headquarters on Saturday 9 August 2025.
The ceremony featured a joint sermon delivered by the GHANBATT Imam, Captain Muhammad Ameen Shuaib Shuaib and Chaplain, Captain Isaac Kobina Amoquandoh-Newton, on the theme “Called to Serve with Excellence and Purpose.”
They emphasised the importance of teamwork, unity and purposeful service in fulfilling the UNISFA mandate, urging personnel to avoid favouritism and work towards the mission’s common objective.
The Guest of Honour, Acting Head of Mission and Force Commander Major General Robert Yaw Affram, cautioned troops against complacency, emphasising the importance of vigilance, discipline and adherence to the highest standards of conduct, including the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse. He also stressed the need to remain focused on mission objectives while upholding excellence and integrity.

In his remarks, the GHANBATT Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Jacob Nbaamundoh Nanjo expressed gratitude to the Military High Command of the Ghana Armed Forces for entrusting him with the leadership of the Battalion.
He pledged to lead with humility and determination, highlighting teamwork and discipline as essential for a successful tour of duty.
