Funeral service of the late Sergeant Kyere Evans has been held at the Garrison Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Burma Camp on Friday 16 February, 2024.
Pastor Captain Nketia Yamoah consoled the family and sympathizers. He told them to be strong even as they mourn their departed loved one and advised them to hold on to Jesus Christ in all their endeavors for a perfect journey on this earth.
He encouraged all to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and personal savior because death was inevitabl, adding there was no need to be afraid of death in Christ.
The late Sgt Kyere who met his untimely death on a peacekeeping mission at the United Nation Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) was born on 21 June, 1985 in Berekum. He was enlisted into the military in 2011 and posted to the 49 Engineer Regiment after completing his Basic Course. He left behind a wife and three children.
He was interned at the Military Cemetery. Wreaths were laid by the Chief Staff Officer (CSO) at the Army Headquarters, Brig Gen BB Owusu on behalf of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) for the Officers, Men and Defence Civilian Staff (DCS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
The second wreath was laid by Chief G3 PSO, Col Danso Ankah on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) for the Officers, Men and DCS of Ghana Army.
The third wreath was laid by the Commanding Officer 49 Engineers Regiment for the Officers, men and DCS of 49 Engineer Regiment.
Mrs Anita Sekyere laid the fourth wreath on behalf of the church and Mr Osei Kofi laid the last wreath on behalf of the family in memory of the late Sgt Kyere Evans.
