The Headquarters Central Command has celebrated the annual West African Soldiers' Social Activity (WASSA), at Idris Barracks Kumasi on Friday 31 January 2025.
The event brought together personnel and their families for merrymaking as they reflected on the past year, had in attendance dignitaries, including the General Officer Commanding Central Command, Brigadier General Michael Kwadwo Opoku, a former Chief of the Army Staff, Major General Richard Kwame Opoku-Adusei, heads of regional security agencies, officers and other distinguished guests.
In his welcome address, the Acting Commanding Officer of Headquarters Central Command Camp, Lieutenant Colonel Prince Karl Abanah, highlighted the significance of WASSA in fostering unity between soldiers and the civilian population.
He highlighted the importance of reflecting on the past year to understand both successes and challenges, stressing the need to maintain peace and security in the Ashanti Region. He commended the dedication of personnel involved in key operations such as Op HALT I & II, Op Zero, and security duties at the Forward Operating Base and the Bank of Ghana. Their commitment to community safety, he noted, was commendable and he encouraged them to continue working towards sustaining regional stability.
The Guest of Honour, Chief Executive Officer of Western Pharmacy Mr Isaac Owusu, a renowned philanthropist, lauded the personnel for their hard work and commitment to peace and security. He acknowledged the leadership’s role in navigating the tensions of the 2024 general elections and expressed optimism for continued progress.
Mr Owusu encouraged everyone to look ahead to a promising 2025, urging personnel and security agencies to remain steadfast in their duties.
As part of the celebrations, outstanding personnel were honoured for their dedication and exceptional service over the past year.
