The Deputy Chief of Staff (Medical), Major General Raymond Ewusi, has urged men over 40 years to undergo regular prostate cancer tests.
He was speaking at the launch of the Prostate Cancer Awareness campaign on Wednesday 27 November 2024 at the Burma Hall where he urged personnel to visit 37 Military Hospital and Arakan Medical Centre for screening since early detection saves lives.
The event emphasised early detection and preventive measures for prostate cancer, encouraging men with high risk to take preventive measures to avoid the disease.
Guest Speaker and Head of Quality Management at the 37 Military Hospital, Commodore Paul Yegbe, emphasised the importance of tracing family medical history and understanding one's risk for certain cancers, particularly prostate cancer, stating that age no longer matters.
Lieutenant Florence Elorm Yetor, discussed the importance of implementing preventive measures for prostate cancer to ensure its best management. She uncovered the myth that certain lifestyles and diets can help manage prostate cancer, suggesting that prevention involves managing stress, maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding fatty foods and increasing vegetable intake.
Prostate cancer survivor Kwaku Sintim Misah, urged men to prioritise their health to prevent similar medical issues. He hinted that the process of prostate cancer treatment can be extremely uncomfortable for men, but not comparable to the pain experienced when detected late.
