The Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon Kofi Amankwa - Manu has commissioned the first phase of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Bui in the Bono Region on Thursday 29 February, 2024.
The edifice has accommodation, offices, and other supporting facilities to make the Base operational for troops to give physical protection and rapid reaction to incidents.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon Amankwa-Manu said the close proximity of the FOB would ensure situational awareness and effective coordination at all times against potential threats to the security of the Dam.
According to him, Government has made considerable strides to retool the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and develop infrastructure to meet operational needs of troops. He added that, the Ministry of Defence has occasionally benefited from the benevolence of some key strategic partners who provided some facilities.
Hon Amankwa-Manu commended the Bui Power Authority and other cooperate institutions for complementing the effort of Government to enable GAF deliver on its mandate. He further mentioned that, the partnership between the GAF and the Bui Power Authority manifests an excellent relationship would be sustained.
He charged the Military High Command and troops to display their utmost military maintenance culture in the usage of the facility.
Present at the ceremony were the Bono Regional Minister, Hon Justina Awo Owusu-Banahene, the Chief of the Army Staff Major General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona, Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Issah Yakubu, Rear Admiral Agyenim Boateng (DCOS(Log), and the traditional leaders of the Bui and Bole traditional area.
