Central Command has conducted its 2023 West Africa Soldiers Social Activity popularly known as WASSA on Friday, 22 December 2023 at Idris Barracks, Kumasi.

Some of the highlights included presentation of awards to dedicated and hardworking male and female soldiers of the Command as well as best civilian employees. The activities included weight lifting competition, apple eating competition and a short play staged by wives of personnel depicting their role in the Barracks.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Central Command, Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Charles Agyemang-Prempeh commended personnel for their unyielding effort in carrying out the directive of the Chief of the Army Staff on illegal mining, leading to the seizure of 120 excavators and 2 bulldozers a testament to their commitment to the fight against the menace.

He urged them to stick to the mission of reversing the pollution of river and water bodies as well as the destruction of the forest belt of Ghana, an essential element for the survival of the current and future generations.

He appealed to individuals and stakeholders to come to the aid of the Command to enable it complete a 20-bedroom accommodation which is at a roofing stage. He disclosed that plans have been advanced for Asanko Gold Limited and Newmont Ghana to construct a 30-unit bedroom and a hall as well as a 10-unit two-bedroom accommodation for the personnel of 4BN and 3BN respectively.

Brig Gen Agyemang-Prempeh added that a committee has been formed to drive the agenda to renovate the 4 Garrison Officer's Mess. He also hinted that, a request has been made to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) for architectural design for a construction of a multi-purpose Operational and Conference Hall.

Earlier, the GOC commissioned an ultramodern gate at the main entrance to the Command which was single-handedly constructed by a Royal from the Anoo Kesse Clan, Elder Nana Kwasi Appiah.
