The 11 Mechanized Infantry Battalion, Home of Hawks, has held its first West African Soldiers’ Social Activities (WASSA) on Friday 17 January 2025.

The event, held at the Battalion Headquarters in Bolgatanga to mark the end of the 2024 operational year, brought together soldiers and guests for a day of celebration. It also featured the commissioning of a newly built Quarter Guard.

Delivering the keynote address, the Guest of Honor, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central and Majority Leader in Parliament Hon Mahama Ayariga expressed gratitude to the soldiers for maintaining peace in Bawku, particularly during the 2024 General Elections.

He pledged to advocate for the improvement of military infrastructure in the region, emphasising the importance of supporting the armed forces in their efforts to uphold national security.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Northern Command, Brigadier General Frank Nartey Tei, commended the discipline and dedication of soldiers under his command. He credited their hard work for ensuring peace across the northern sector during the elections.

Brigadier General Tei also extended his appreciation to the Guest of Honor for his unwavering support and presence at the event.

In his welcome address, the Commander Rear of the battalion, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col)  Kakra Sasu-Antwi, praised the contributions of past Commanding Officers. He also commended the soldiers for their unwavering commitment to duty.

 “Your selfless sacrifices, dedication, and devotion to your country will forever be celebrated by generations to come.” He added.

Awards were presented to outstanding soldiers and civilian staff in recognition of their exceptional service to the battalion.

The event was graced by several distinguished personalities, including the Commanding Officer of the 12 Mechanized Infantry Battalion Lt Col Frederick Amankwah, Regional Police Commander, DCOP Raymond Adofiem, Regional Commander of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) Mr Emmanuel Owusu, and Bolgatanga Area Head of the Church of Pentecost Apostle David Amankwah.
