The Ghanaian Contingent Commander (CONTICO) and Sector West Commander of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Kweku Dankwa Hagan has paid week visit to Ghana Battalion (GHANBATT 11) Headquarters Bentiu, from 10-17 January 2024.


The visit was for him to assess the operational activities of GHANBATT. He expressed delight in the operational assessment of GHANBATT and noted that it was in line with the United Nations (UN) mandate within their Area of Operational Responsibility (AOR) which includes protecting civilians and assisting humanitarian agencies.

Additionally, held a durbar with personnel where he placed emphasis on security in the mission area. He further urged personnel to remain resolute, professional and disciplined in the discharge of their duties.

The CONTICO also commissioned a newly constructed prefabricated accommodation unit at the Alpha Company of the Battalion.

As part of his itinerary, Brig Gen Hagan paid courtesy calls on Sector Unity Headquarters leadership, the Ghana Formed Police Unit (GHANFPU), the Commander 4th Division of South Sudan Peoples Defence Force (SSPDF), the Acting Governor of Unity State and the GHANBATT Temporary Operating Base (TOB) at Koch County as well as the Company Operating Base (COB) at Leer County.
