Head of Mission of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Lieutenant General Aroldo Lázáro Sáenz has assessed the operations, morale, and overall effectiveness of the Ghanaian Battalion (GHANABATT) Headquarters during his visit on Tuesday, 7 November, 2023.

The facility assessment visit became necessary after the Battalion Mobile Reserve (BMR) shed suffered a direct attack as a result of the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

Lieutenant General Sáenz inspected a smartly turned-out Guard of Honor parade mounted in front of the Kpeto Hall, after which the Commanding Officer of the battalion gave detailed briefing covering an overview of the mission, operational status, achievements made, challenges faced, as well as damages incurred as a result of the ongoing war.

In his interaction with troops, the Head of Mission commended the troops for demonstrating a high level of professionalism, commitment, and dedication to the UNFIL Mission. He advised the troops to wear their fragmentation jackets and helmets at all times in order to prevent avoidable injuries. He again urged troops to keep up their morale and be each other’s keeper to depict the words in the slogan “Unos para todos, Todos para unos – meaning “One for all, All for One”

The visit of the UNIFIL Force Commander to the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters was a testament to the commitment of both Ghana and the United Nations in maintaining peace and stability in South Lebanon. The interaction, assessment, and discussions during the visit highlighted the important role the Ghana Battalion plays in achieving these objectives.

He was accompanied by the Contingent Commander, Col Francis Anemana and the MA to the Force Commander.
