The Force Commander (FC) of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Aroldo Lázaro Sáenz, has paid a working visit to the Headquarters of Ghana Battalion (GHANBATT) at UNP 5-66 on Wednesday 30 October 2024.

The visit aimed to introduce the FC to the Battalion and gain first-hand information on the situation within GHANBATT’s Area of Responsibility. Upon arrival, Lt Gen Sáenz received briefings on GHANBATT’s operational and logistical matters and inspected the Level 1 hospital, which had been damaged by an artillery bomb.

During his interaction with the troops, the FC praised their professionalism and resilience, particularly in light of recent cross-border exchanges between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. He also commended the Commanding Officer (CO) of UNIFIL GHANBATT 91, Lt Col Isaac Kobe Boako, for his leadership during challenging times and for GHANBATT’s efforts in maintaining UNIFIL’s mandate along the Blue Line in Southern Lebanon.

Lt Col Boako expressed gratitude for the visit and assured the FC of GHANBATT’s continued commitment to fulfilling its mandate. The Force Commander was accompanied by several staff officers from UNIFIL Headquarters, Naqoura.
