School of Ordnance has inaugurated the Ghana Armed Forces-Accra Technical University (GAF-ATU) Alumni Chapter and inducted new executives into office on Thursday, 23 November 2023. The executives are Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) A Amoako; Chairman, Lt CE Benti; Vice Chairman, Lt VY Galley; General Secretary, and Lieutenant R Owusu Financial; Secretary. The rest are Warrant Officer First Class (WOI) Oppong Addo; Treasurer, Staff Sergeant (S/Sgt) Mohammed R,;Organizer, Petty Officer Second Class (POII) Sangmor A; Public Relations Officer and Madam Dora Tetteh; Women’s Organize,. The Guest of Honour, Acting Commandant Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, while congratulating the elected executives, urged them to exhibit a sense of professionalism, and to instil same qualities in subsequent alumni. Commanding Officer (CO) of the School, Lt Col Edina Antwi stated that the school has positioned itself to meet the needs of GAF to provide the requisite human resource capacity.She indicated that in 2018, the School of Ordnance identified ATU as the preferred institution for academic affiliation, a move which has made it possible for about 400 military and Defence Civilian Staff (DCS) to earn various certificates and Degrees, acknowledging that the occasion marked a significant milestone aimed at sustaining the collaboration.The Acting Vice Chancellor of ATU, Professor Amevi Acakpovi, said the milestone occasion reinforces the bond between ATU and GAF emphasizing that collaboration was a means to making strides in the academic and professional development of students and the alumni.He disclosed that the initial signing of the Memorandum of Understanding in August 2018 establishes the affiliation of the then Military Academy and Training Schools (MATS), now TRADOC, providing a platform for the exchange of knowledge, ideas and experiences between academia and the Military.He lauded the School of Ordnance for its pivotal role in bringing experts, scholars, and practitioners to discuss critical issues related to defence, technology, and security. He noted that through joint seminars organized by ATU and GAF, the academic landscape of both institutions has been enriched, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
