Italian patrol vessel Bettica hosted the Minster for Defence, Honourable Dominic Nitiwul and the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Thomas  Oppong- Peprah on Saturday 6 April, 2024 at the Tema Harbour.

The event formed part of series of activities in honour of the visiting Italian President, HE Sr. Sergio Mattarella.

The Italian Navy crew and the Ghana Navy conducted a maritime intelligence led Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) demonstration to show the high level of cooperation between the two navies.

In his speech, the Italian President thanked the Government of Ghana, Minister for Defence and the Chief of the Defence Staff for making the event successful. He noted, the demonstration was important to ensure inclusiveness and freedom of the Sea.

The Minister for Defence in his remarks, applauded the high level of cooperation between the two navies and urged them to further enhance the cooperation to bring piracy and trafficking to the barest minimum. He also thanked the Italians for their dedication to duty. Present were Ministers of State, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Service Chiefs, Directors General, Senior Officers and Soldiers from the Italian Navy and the Ghana Armed Forces.
