A change of command ceremony has been held at Headquarters Southern Command to formally transfer power and authority from Major General (Maj Gen) Michael Ayisi Amoah to Brigadier General (Brig Gen)Samuel Yeboah Asare as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) on Friday, 3 November 2023.The colourful ceremony, which was held at the Oppong-Peprah square, also marked the full assumption for Maj Gen MA Amoah as Commander, Operation Enhanced Koudanlgou after he handed over the command colour and baton to Brig Gen SY Asare , to signify the official transfer of power and authority of command. Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Maj Gen Thomas Oppong-Peprah who was the guest of honour for the ceremony commended Maj Gen Amoah for the instrumental leadership and efficient management of the Command by maintaining the professional posture and integrity of the command through intensive training and sound administration. He entreated him to exemplify same in his next appointment.Maj Gen Amoah in a farewell speech indicated that, during his tenure as the 26th GOC of the Command from February 2021, he enhanced the efforts of his predecessors to carry the Command to greater professional s, chalking up excellent results in all operational tasks and competitive exercises undertaken by the Ghana Army. He stated that he took over as GOC of the Command at a time when Ghana was confronted with the challenge of dealing with sophisticated internal security threats that required holistic and coordinated preventive mechanism for mitigation.He added that through collective efforts, the Command had attained a high standard of operational readiness. He commended troops for their untiring efforts, dedication to duty and high standard of professionalism portrayed over the period and urged all ranks to uphold the spirit of excellence the Command is noted for.Brig Gen Asare expressed gratitude to the Military High Command for the confidence reposed in him by appointing him as GOC of the premiere Command of the Ghana Army, and pledged to serve the people of Ghana as enshrined in the constitution. He congratulated his predecessor for the sterling performance during his tenure through commitment to duty and demanded higher levels of loyalty, cooperation, professionalism and dedication to duty from troops to ensure success.
