Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) Lieutenant General Thomas Oppong-Peprah has acquainted himself with the activities of the 37 Military Hospital on Monday 26 February, 2024.

The Administrative Officer-Medical, of the 37 Military Hospital, Lt Col Alex Abiti briefed the CDS on the operational activities, logistics, projects and challenges of the hospital.

He outlined the role of the hospital which includes provision of healthcare for Service Personnel, Defence Civilian Staff and their families and the general public. He added that the hospital also has an additional task of providing medical cover for military exercises, visiting dignitaries, sporting activities as well as medical examination for troops going on operations, exercises, courses and the enlistment process into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

The Administrative Medical Officer mentioned the installation of new laundry equipment, emergency team at the Trauma and Surgical Emergency Unit (TSEU), Installation of Ventilators, New Body Transporters for the morgue, reactivation of the telephone lines, creation of additional theatre at the TSEU and a Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) among others.

On the challenges, Lt Col Abiti said, the X-Ray, MRI and the CT scan machines were not functioning. He also spoke about lack of ambulance and accommodation for both officers and soldiers of the formation.

Lt Gen Thomas Oppong-Peprah commended the Commander 37 Military Hospital, Brig Gen Prosper Ayibor and his team for the great work done at the Formation. He emphasized that the health and welfare of Officers, Soldiers and their families was of great concern to him hence improving the Ghana armed Forces Medical Service was a key part of his vision.

He further stressed on the need to prioritize timely healthcare delivery to Officers and Soldiers at the hospital and disclosed plans to build a new hospital at Burma Camp, adding that the Medical Reception Stations (MRS) in various Garrisons would be strengthen and equipped to provide necessary healthcare to personnel.
