The Gender Policy Advisor(GPA) to the Chief of the Defence Staff, Group Captain Theodora Agornyo has called on the Chief Director of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MOGCSP), Dr Afisah Zakariah on Thursday 28 November 2024.The meeting aims to foster collaboration and share insights on the strides made in gender mainstreaming to build a more inclusive and equitable society. Group Captain Agornyo emphasised the importance of integrating gender considerations into military operations and policies. “The mandate of my office generally provides input into policies, reviewing policies, standing operating procedures and regulations to ensure that gender mainstreaming takes a strong hold in the GAF”, she added. She also highlighted initiatives aimed at promoting women's participation in the military and address gender-based violence effectively. Dr Afisah Zakariah praised the military's commitment to integrating gender considerations into its policies and practices, stating that the initiative would serve as a model for other organisations. “The Ghana Armed Forces have set a high standard in gender mainstreaming, and we believe that other sectors can learn from their approach”, she added. She assured the military of support and a partnership that prioritises the welfare of women, men and children within military communities and Ghana. ‘Sometimes parents learn from their children, and the ministry is going to model on GAF’s gender mainstreaming,’ she remarked.
