A high powered delegation led by the National Security Advisor to the President of the Republic of Ghana, Brigadier General Emmanuel Okyere (Rtd) has embarked on a two-day visit from 22 June to 23 June 2023 to some communities in the Upper West and Upper East Regions.
The delegation included the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, the General Officer Commanding Northern Command, Brigadier General Matthew Essien and the Base Commander, Air Force Base Tamale Air Commodore Joshua Mensah-Larkai.The visit was aimed at re-assuring the local populace of the Ghana Armed Forces’ (GAF) commitment in keeping the peace within the communities and also to interact with them on some pressing issues related to security. 
At Gwolu in the Upper West Region, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Sisala West District, Hon Ayisha Imoro Batong-Hor briefed the delegation on some incidents which had security implications. She stated that on 21 April 2023, there was an influx of nomadic Fulani men from Burkina Faso into the country. She added that this was facilitated by the high number of unapproved routes and porous borders. The DCE reiterated on the ‘see something say something’ agenda to help beef up the security situation.Brig Gen M Essien urged the District Security Council to establish a contingency plan to tackle these security situations. He also entreated them to share intelligence and information amongst various security services to enhance the effectiveness of their operations. 
The delegation later flew to the Upper East Region accompanied by the Upper East Regional Minister, Hon Stephen Yakubu and they also visited the Tarikom Refugee Reception Centre. They were briefed by the representative of the Ghana Refugee Board, Nana Abgesi. He disclosed that the region saw a large number of asylum seekers from Burkina Faso.
He added that the refugee reception centre had the capacity to contain about 2100 people and would only serve as a transition centre where the asylum seekers would be registered and later transferred to a semi-permanent structure.
Brig Gen E Okyere (Rtd) urged all to be law abiding and coexist peacefully whilst reassuring the regions of government’s commitment to maintain the peace in the country.
