The Director General Narcotics Control Commission, Mr Kenneth Adu-Amanfoh has called for the need to strengthen the collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

He said this when he paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General (Lt Gen), Thomas Oppong-Peprah at the General Headquarters on Monday 19 February, 2024.

Mr Adu-Amanfoh emphasised that it was imperative for the two institutions to deepen collaboration in the area of training and capacity building for the country to win the fight against drug crimes, trafficking as well as terrorism and violent extremism.

He said the success chalked by the Commission has had a positive impact on the image of Ghana internationally reason the country was no longer considered as a transit point for drugs and subsequently leading to Ghana’s election as Chair of the Drug Law and Enforcement Agency of the Africa Center of the United Nations Commission for Drug Crimes.

He also disclosed that the UN has selected Ghana to host the international Conference on drugs later this year.

The CDS, on his part, assured them of the Armed Forces commitment to strengthen collaboration with the Narcotics Control Commission to enable it accomplish its mandate. He indicated that GAF would continue to offer facilities and human resources to train personnel of the Commission.

Lt Gen Oppong-Peprah reiterated the Armed Forces willingness to continue to provide operational support for the Commission to ensure that its personnel conduct their operations safely, especially along the country’s entry routes.

The CDS also commended the Commission for their hard work and for winning the confidence of the international community. He registered his commitment to cultivating and enhancing avenues for mutual benefit and building on the established cooperation started by the former CDS, Vice Admiral Seth Amoma.

The Director General present a copy of the New Drug Law and a plaque to the CDS.

Present were the Service Chiefs, Provost Marshall of the Ghana Armed Forces and senior management staff of the Commission.
