Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Charles Agyeman Prempeh has taken over command and authority of the Ghana Military Academy from Major General (Maj Gen) Charles Awitty on Wednesday 21 February, 2024.

Prior to the farewell parade held at the Ghana Military Academy Ranger Baba Square, Whistler barracks, Teshie, both outgoing and incoming Commandants signed the handing and taking over notes witnessed by the Chief of Staff Maj Gen Joseph Prince Osei-Wusu, Commandant TRADOC Rear Admiral Eric Adu, Deputy Commandant GMA Brig Gen Dominic Dieu-Donne Gbedawo and senior officers.

After thirty-nine (39) years of dedicated service Maj Gen Charles Awitty in his farewell speech, expressed gratitude to the military hierarchy for the trust and the opportunity given him to contribute to the development of the Armed Forces and Ghana as a whole.

He congratulated his successor Brig Gen Agyeman Prempeh and expressed confidence in him to build upon the progress made during his tenure.

He charged instructors of the academy to remain truthful, virtues of loyalty, dedication, devotion and sacrifice to ensure training of the officer cadets.

“To my colleague Generals, I entreat you to continue to be loyal to the system, ensure maintenance of cohesion and espirit de corps among the rank and file. Above all integrity and professionalism should be your hallmark. This will go a long way to ensure the continuous growth and development of the Ghana Armed Forces and also safeguard national security and development”, he added.

He also thanked Officers and Men including Defence Civilian Staff of the academy for their unwavering support and encouragement throughout his tenure in office.

In accordance with military custom and tradition, Maj Gen Awitty was ceremoniously pulled out

indicating his official exit from the academy.
