The 69 Airborne Force Tamale has marked the successful completion of the Basic Commando Course for a total of 29 personnel on Friday 4 October 2024.

The ceremony signifies an important milestone for the Unit as it continues to equip participants with the skills, mindset, and resilience required to operate in high-risk environments, contributing effectively to national security objectives.

The Guest of Honour (GoH) for the occasion, Brigadier General Issac Nicholas Paintsil, expressed gratitude to the Chief of the Army Staff for approving the course and for the immense support provided throughout. He also thanked the 6 Garrison Commander, Air Cdre Mensah-Larkai, and the General Officer Commanding Northern Command, Brig Gen Frank Tei, for their moral support, guidance, and oversight of the training’s success.

He stated that continuous training of commandoes was essential due to the complexity of security threats and challenges facing the nation. He emphasised the vision of the Chief of the Army Staff to maintain a cohesive, motivated, and well-rounded Army capable of fulfilling its national defence mission as part of the Ghana Armed Forces.

The GoH acknowledged the efforts of the instructors, administrative staff, and all those who contributed to the training. He commended the soldiers for completing the Commando Course and urged them to continue being loyal, disciplined, and professional—masters of their craft—as they are the nation’s guardians and beacons of hope.

The Commanding Officer of the 69 Airborne Force, Lieutenant Colonel Louis Yaw  Boakye, stated that the unit has now been designated as the 69 Airborne Special Force and will conduct special operations as part of the

Army Special Operations Brigade (ASOB). He mentioned that, during critical times, the unit would be expected to act as a quick reaction force and a reserve to influence operations conducted by the Ghana Army.

He congratulated the new commandoes on their successful completion of the course and urged them to wear their badges with pride, as their determination and endurance have earned them the unique Commando Badge and the right to be members of the tier 2 elite force of the Ghana Army.
