The Army Special Operations Brigade (ASOB) has conducted Phase II of its assessment and selection exercise for Army personnel who desired to become members of the Special Force from 29 October to 3 November 2023. The exercise held for interested personnel drawn from Units under the Southern Command started with a total of forty-six candidates; consisting ten Officers and thirty-six soldiers of which two are female soldiers. At the end of the one-week rigorous selection exercise, only two officers and three soldiers qualify for the Basic Special Forces Course (BSFC) scheduled for the year. As part of the assessment and selection process, the candidates undertook Basic Fitness Test (BFT) and swimming, 8km rucksack run, aptitude test, minor tactics, 10km buddy run, among others.Addressing the participants, the Deputy Commander ASOB, Colonel (Col) RK Mensah commended the eligible candidates for going the extra mile to be shortlisted for the upcoming BSFC adding that to be part of the elite force, one must be intelligent, physically fit and disciplined.Col Mensah intimated that the Brigade was not looking for quantity but rather elite Officers and men willing to serve with honour. He said the standard for the assessment and selection process has been set by the previous operators and it would never be lowered.
