A mission accomplishment parade has been held to welcome troops of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Ghana Battalion (GHANBATT 10) on Monday, 9 October 2023 at the 5 Infantry Battalion Square, Burma Camp.
The Assistant Commandant, Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC), Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Albert Kwadjo Dawohoso who was the reviewing officer for the ceremony welcomed the troops for a successful tour of duty and mentioned that the Military High Command was impressed with them for efficiently and professionally executing their duties in their area of responsibility (AOR).
He commended GHANBATT 10 for their selfless efforts in the support of humanitarian activities. He indicated that this had contributed to the success of the mandate of the mission and further deepened the cordial relationship between the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the host nation.
The Chief G3 (Peace Support Operations), at the Army Headquarters, Col Danso-Ankrah in reading a citation on behalf of the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General (Maj Gen) Thomas Oppong-Peprah mentioned that GAF has actively participated in Peace Support Operations in South Sudan for the past decade, thereby reflecting the commitment of Ghana to global peace and security.
He revealed that the endeavour was carried out in close collaboration with other contingents and partners of the United Nations to ensure the full implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2677 of 2023.
UNMISS GHANBATT 10 assumed operational command on Tuesday, 19 September 2022 in Bentui, to safeguard the civilian populace in South Sudan while facilitating the effort of humanitarian agencies.
