Brigadier General Frank Nartey Tei has been officially inducted into office as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Northern Command on Sunday 16 June 2024.
The induction religious service was held at the Air Force Base Tamale by the Acting Director General Religious Affairs, Reverend Colonel (Rev Col) BG Kumi-Woode under the theme "I will be with you always".
Rev Col Kumi-Woode preaching on the theme averred that God has plans for sending the GOC to the northern sector and his presence would always be with him.
In his homily, the Garrison Imam, Abdul Rahim Yamusah urged the GOC to always lean on God's direction in decision-making. He prayed for success during his tenure as GOC.
The Guest of Honour for the occasion, the Northern Regional Minister, Honourable Alhassan Shani Shaibu congratulated the GOC on his appointment. He expressed his commitment to work closely with the GOC to maintain peace and stability in the region.
Brigadier General Frank Nartey Tei in his address admitted that prior to his appointment as GOC, he had been monitoring with keen interest the outstanding performances of troops in maintaining peace in the northern sector. He added that despite the myriad challenges, the bravery, professionalism and steadfast dedication of troops had been commendable over the period.
Brig Gen Tei said the Military High Command was not oblivious of the many challenges in the Command hence working tirelessly to address them.
"I pledge to lead with integrity, courage and a steadfast commitment to our mission. Let us continue to serve with honour, to protect with valour and to uphold the legacy of our predecessors with tenacity that defines us", he added.
Following the induction, attendees proceeded to the site for the construction of a new edifice dubbed the “Eagle Nest” for the GOC.
Brig Gen Tei stated that the project to construct a befitting accommodation would not only serve as an official residence but a physical expression of the contributions made by all and sundry towards effort to lift the image of the command.
He further disclosed that the Chief of the Army Staff, Major General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona had donated Fifty Thousand Ghana cedis as seed money to commence the project. He also acknowledged his predecessor, Major General Matthew Essien for mobilising the initial resources for the project.
Dignitaries present at the ceremony included the Omanhene of Akwamu Traditional Area, Nana Odeneho Kwafo III, representatives of the Sagnarigu Naa, Staff Officers at the Headquarters Northern Command, Commanding Officers of units under command, and other senior officers.
