A former Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Major General (Maj Gen) Edwin Kwamina Sam (Rtd) has launched a memoir dubbed; "The Path of an Army General: How I Served My Country," on Tuesday 28 January 2025, at Burma Hall, Burma Camp.

The book, a unique blend of inspiring stories, practical military insights, and historical knowledge offers a glimpse into pivotal events that shaped the Ghanaian community. It also provides a template for leadership and highlights the author's experiences and lessons learned throughout his military career.

Speaking on behalf of the CDS, General Thomas Oppong Peprah, the Commandant of Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC), Major General Matthew Essien expressed heartfelt gratitude to former president John Agyekum Kufuor for inspiring the author to embark on a journey documenting his experiences.

He described the book as a guide to all uniformed since it bridges the gap between the military and the civilian world, allowing a deeper understanding of the principles that guide those who serve.

In his remarks, the author, Maj Gen Edwin Sam (Rtd) expressed profound gratitude to individuals who contributed to his journey. He thanked former President Agyekum Kufuor, for re-engaging him after retirement. He extended appreciation to the former Chief of Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama (Rtd) for providing support, acknowledging the vital role Vice Admiral Amoama played in his career.

He further expressed gratitude to the former Commandant of Military Academy and Training Schools (MATS), Major General William Omane Agyekum (Rtd), who encouraged him to document and preserve his experiences to provide insight for posterity.

He stated that the book fills gaps in the story of the Ghana Armed Forces noting that the military's traditions and standards, initially modeled after the British military, were dwindling. The book he stated would help reinforce traditions, highlighting the importance of trust and loyalty between officers and troops, as well as reverence for God.

Reviewing the book, Brig Gen Dan Frimpong (Rtd) highlighted its exploration of complex military and political historical events, including the 1962, 1972, and 1979 coups. Describing the book as an examination of integrity and knowledge.
