Ing Colonel (Col) Steve Oduro-Kwarteng (Rtd) has relaunched the book titled “The Memoirs of a Colonel Retired” on Thursday, 23 November 2023 at the Burma Hall, Burma Camp.
The new edition captures the interesting aspects of the Officer Cadet training, Barracks life of young Officers post-training, Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) involvement in UN peace support operations, and preparations towards retirement. He also shared insights on how the Isreali-Egyptian conflict, Isareali-Palestine conflict and Morrocan-Western Sahara conflict all came about and other military-related events that occurred in the past.
The author, Ing Col Oduro-Kwarteng (Rtd) expressed appreciation to the Military High Command for the opportunity to relaunch the latest edition of his book at the Burma Hall. He was of the view that the message in the book would impact readers and hoped the book reaches more individuals so as to inspire and empower them to embrace self-discovery and growth.
He acknowledged the tremendous effort put forth by former CDS, Lt Gen Peter Blay and former Municipal of Garden City University, Dr Lloyd Asamoah for proofreading the book for an extensive period of over two-years. He further thanked everyone for the support and urged readers to enjoy the exciting new edition.
The Guest of Honour, Deputy Chief of Staff in-charge of Administration, Air Vice Marshal Appiah-Agyekum, on behalf of Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, acknowledges the increasing number of writers in the military, disclosing his staunch advocacy for Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), personnel both serving and retired, to document their experiences to advance the frontiers of general military knowledge and security for the benefit of posterity.
Air Vice Marshal Appiah-Agyekum reiterated that books which mostly contain historical truths and factually verifiable information help eradicate misinterpretation of military and security matters and as well shape the notion of current and future happenings.
According to him, the new edition of the book titled “The Memoirs of a Colonel Retired” would serve as an important tool kit and reference material for military personnel.
