The Ghana Military Academy (GMA) on Friday, 8 September 2023 held its 2023 Inter-Company Senior Steeplechase Competition, showcasing a remarkable athletic ability of 311 Cadets.

 

The competitors were drawn from Regular Career Course Intake 62 and Short Service Commission & Special Duties Course 60 to test their cardiovascular fitness, speed, agility, muscular strength and endurance. The Cadets covered a challenging 12-kilometer circuit set on a difficult and undulating terrain and subsequently surmounted a series of obstacles to completion.

 

The Duala Company was crowned the champion of the competition, the Abyssinia Company secured the second place position while the Burma Company achieved the third place followed by the Chiringa Company.

 

Flight Cadet (F/Cdt) Sefah Richard Obeng from the Duala Company claimed the title of the best runner with a running time of 55 minutes and 37 seconds. Senior Cadet (S/Cdt) Gamor Clinton Obrempong from the Duala Company emerged as the first runner-up with a time of 56 minutes and 23 seconds while S/Cdt Asante Nathaniel Minta secured the position of second runner-up with 57 minutes and 39 seconds running time.

 

Also worthy of highlighting is the outstanding achievement of F/Cdt Asante Christiana Akyaa from the Chiringa Company who emerged as the best female runner of the competition with a running time of 1 hour and 10 minutes.

 

The former Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral (R/Adm) Peter Kofi Faidoo (Rtd) speaking as the Special Guest, commended the cadets for their unyielding spirit in overcoming the obstacles strewn along the course.

 

R/Adm Faidoo (Rtd) emphasized that the competition served as an integral part of the Cadets' training program, thoroughly testing their physical fitness, endurance and ability to overcome obstacles.

 

The Special Guest praised the instructors for their dedicated efforts in molding and preparing the cadets for the competition. He affirmed that the Cadets' impressive performance was a testament to the instructors' exemplary work.
