The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Maj Gen Bismarck Kwasi Onwona has commissioned a Twenty-unit (20) accommodation and a Parade Square at Headquarters Central Command Kumasi on Tuesday 19 March, 2024.
Both projects were christened Agyemang-Prempeh block and Agyemang-Prempeh square respectively. The Agyemang-Prempeh block comprises one unit bedroom and a hall with kitchen and toilet as well as bath ensuite.
In his address, the COAS commended the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Central Command, Brigadier General Charles Agyemang-Prempeh for his ingenuity and making the needs of soldiers his topmost priority. He indicated that accommodation remains a major challenge despite government's efforts to address it through the barracks regeneration programme across all Garrisons.
He said the recent expansion of the Ghana Armed Forces has worsened the accommodation challenge. He indicated that a number of personnel are not properly and decently accommodated as some are housed in wooden structures which he acknowledged are prone to fire outbreaks, reptile, rodent infestations and other possible associated health risks. He expressed optimism to help resolve the challenges. The Chief of the Army Staff applauded personnel for the commitment, dedication and sacrifices they make on daily basis to ensure peace and security in their area of responsibility and reminded them of their responsibility to ensure a free, fair and transparent elections in December 2024.
He also reminded personnel about the looming threat of terrorism in the sub region and urged them to train and be adequately prepared to respond appropriately to any attack.Earlier, Brigadier General Charles Agyemang-Prempeh in his opening remarks thanked the Military High Command for giving him the opportunity to serve as the GOC Central Command. He pledged his unflinching support to the Command and Ghana Army.
The GOC expressed his gratitude to individuals who contributed immensely towards the completion of the facilities. He said the projects serves as testimony of their resolve to contribute towards the well-being of soldiers.
