A 40th day Adua has been held in memory of the late Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Joshua Henry Smith (Rtd) at his residence at the Green Park, Silver Bells, Regimanuel Gray Estate, Spintex on Wednesday 7 February, 2024.
According to Islamic tradition, the departed souls must be prayed for as a means of intercession for God’s mercies by reciting the entire Quran.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Speaker of Parliament, Right Honourable Alban Sumana Bagbin extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and encouraged them to persevere during the difficult period.
He described the late General as a patriotic statesman under who’s leadership the relations between Ghana and the United States of America became mutual and beneficial.
The Rt Honourable Speaker further eulogised the late Senior Officer as one who was calm and kind under who’s tenure all enjoyed working. He donated an amount of GH₵ 20,000 to the family and entreated them to be courageous.
The Mamfi Hene of Akuapem in the Eastern Region, Nana Ansah Sasraku applauded Madam Douha Yehia Smith and late Gen Smith for the exemplary life they lived which positively affected even smaller towns within the Akuapem area.
The late General served as Chief of the Army Staff, Minister for Defence and Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States of America. He passed on at the age of 78 years and was survived by a wife and five children.
