The 6 Garrison Education Centre has held its 2023 edition of the West African Soldiers Social Activities (WASSA) with their families, friends, colleagues and well-wishers, to honour its personnel on Thursday, 18 January 2024.

The WASSA, held at the 6 Infantry Battalion Officer’s Mess in Kamina Barracks under the theme “Rewarding Hardwork for Improved Teaching and Learning Outcomes in Basic Schools’’, served as a platform to celebrate the achievements of the Centre as well as make projections for the new year.

On behalf of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Northern Command, Brigadier General Matthew Essien, the Command Operations Officer (COO), Colonel (Col) Franklyn Worlanyo Kwasi Agbebo commended the 6 Garrison Education Centre for their dedication towards imparting knowledge.

He described the school’s performance during the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination as the best ever in the annals of the Centre. He added that 6 Garrison Education Centre participated in the Northern Region Junior Mathematics and Science Quiz Competition and National Junior Maths and Sceince Quiz held in Kumasi where they placed first and third, respectively.

Col Agbebo also disclosed that the French Learning Centre of the Garrison has also been adjudged the best in the country by the French Embassy and thanked parents for their immense contribution towards the development of the schools.

“Thanks to your support, the Garrison was able to put up additional eight-unit classroom complex in Kamina Barracks and a multipurpose canteen complex in Barwah Barracks”, he added.

He thanked the Education Officer, Captain Maxwell Kuutuluzie for his dedication and innovation to ensuring a congenial environment for teaching and learning, urging him to facilitate the process for the inauguration of the newly created Model Basic Schools, christened “Services Basic School and Northern Command Basic School”.

The Regional Education Service recognized and awarded, the best Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High School teachers, as well as the overall best teacher. For their awards, they took home a refrigerator each and a citation
