The 1 Garrison Education Centre has held its end of year West African Soldiers Social Activity (WASSA) and award ceremony at the Education Centre in Michel Camp on Friday, 8 December, 2023.

The Garrison Education Officer, Major Patience Yeboah Frimpong acknowledged the continuous sacrifices and dedication of teachers of the Centre and expressed her profound gratitude to them for their efforts.

She stated that with support from the office of the Educational Director, Burma Camp, 1 Infantry Battalion, Eastern Naval Command and other philanthropic organizations, the Center has worked assiduously to provide thirty (30) desktop computers, one hundred (100) ceiling fans and a ten-seater toilet rooms for Camp 2 Junior High School (JHS).  She added that a science laboratory was under construction at the school.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for Tema, Honourable Yohane Amarh Ashitey emphasized the vital roles teachers play in the lives of pupils, adding that without them, one’s life journey would be more difficult from childhood to adulthood and even beyond. He added that teachers serve as mentors to guide pupils in achieving goals and most importantly preparing them for a world full of uncertainties.

Hon Amarh Ashitey said discipline and punctuality were the hallmarks that have shaped his journey; drawing a comparison with contemporary schools, he underscored the significance of these values, stating they are often overshadowed in today's educational landscape.

He reiterated his commitment to education and pledged to contribute significantly to its progress in the Tema Metropolis.

Awards were given to some deserving teachers, headteachers, retirees, and schools under the Garrison.Whereas Madam Beatrice Adjei was adjudged the Best JSH French Teacher, Majesty Atiga was awarded as the best teacher for Camp 2 JHS. Madam Benita Achempong was adjudged the overall best teach for Naval Base Primary School.
