The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has begun a new era of leadership as the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, proceeds on retirement on Thursday, 1 February 2024. After providing unblemished services to the colours and country over four decades as well as championing the expansion drive of GAF, Vice Admiral Amoama bowed out ceremoniously leaving an enviable record in the helm of leadership, a mark worth emulating by all and sundry. In line with military tradition, a farewell parade was held in his honour at the forecourt of the Department of Public Relations in Burma Camp followed by a ceremonial pulling-out through the Command Road with guards lining up the street to present arms on the flanks.Prior to the ceremony, the outgoing and incoming Chiefs of the Defence Staff signed the handing and taking over note which was witnessed by the Deputy Minister for Defence, Honourable Kofi Amankwa-Manu, Service Chiefs, Inspector General of Police and other Senior Officers.Vice Admiral Amoama, in his farewell speech expressed gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces for the confidence reposed in him to lead the Service. He congratulated his successor, Major General Oppong-Peprah, and expressed confidence in his ability to lead GAF to greater s. "I have no doubt that the new CDS will build on the progress we have made so far and lead GAF to greater in the years ahead", he added.  He further thanked the military hierarchy and commanders at all levels including heads of the various Sister Security Services for their support in various ways during his tenure of office. The Chief of Staff at the General Headquarters, Major General Nicholas Peter Andoh presented a citation on behalf of GAF. The various arms of service as well the Police, Prisons, Fire Service amongst others presented gifts to the outgoing CDS
