The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon Hafiz Bin Salih and the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Northern Command, Brigadier General Frank Nartey Tei accompanied by senior officers from both the military and other security services visited Bawku on Thursday 25 April, 2024. The purpose of the visit was to resolve a misunderstanding that took place between some personnel of the military and Ghana Prison Service at Bawku. The visit also created a perfect environment for the Regional Minister to familiarize himself with the operations of the units in Bawku township as a whole. Speaking at the Bawku Naba’s Palace, Hon Bin Salih and Brig Gen Tei commended the traditional leaders in Bawku for their continued support to the security services operating in the area. They also assured the people of Bawku that measures would be put in place to prevent similar incidents in the future. In an interaction with Regional Security Council (REGSEC), Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), MUSEC and troops, the Minister applauded the hard work, dedication and determination of the security services, especially troops deployed in Bawku for their selfless sacrifices, in order to preserve peace in Bawku and its environs. The delegation strongly admonished security personnel to desist from actions that could trigger misunderstanding between them. He urged them to rather work as a team in order to restore the trust the populace have in them. The GOC further advised all parties to exercise maximum restraint in acts of provocation. He added that the security agencies need each in order to fight terrorist threats. He also advised the security personnel in Bawku to focus their attention on providing security and ensuring that all security agencies work together. The heads of the security agencies in Bawku assured the delegation that, their troops would work in unity and harmony to prevent similar situation from recurring.
