UNMISS GHANBATT 11 DONATES TO RHINO VOLLEYBALL TEAMS

UNMISS GHANBATT 11 donates a set of jerseys to the male and female Rhino Volleyball Teams at Bentiu after a volleyball match.

The Ghanaian Battalion (GHANBATT 11) serving with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has donated a set of jerseys to the male and female Rhino Volleyball Teams within the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp at Bentiu on Thursday, 28 December 2023 after a volleyball match.

The donation forms part of efforts of the GHANBATT to promote peace through sports in South Sudan.

The Commanding Officer UNMISS GHANBATT 11, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Dominic Ampomah intimated that the mandate of the GHANBATT was to ensure the protection of civilians within its area of responsibility, an area where the IDP Camp is located.

He assured indigenes of the commitment of the GHANBATT to promoting peace in Unity State and encouraged them not be intimidated by presence of GHANBATT 11 in such area, but see them as stakeholders in the peace building effort.

The Volleyball Chairperson of the IDP Camp, John Twelve Ruot also expressed appreciation to GHANBATT 11 for the benevolence through sportsmanship and added that sports was an ideal way of bringing people together to foster peace.

The match was witnessed by about 2000 IDPs.
