Muslims among the Ghanian Battalion serving with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan have marked Eid-Ul- Fitr celebration at the Battalion Headquarters (BNHQ) Bentiu, on Wednesday 10 April, 2024.

Eid-Ul- Fitr marks the observation of Ramadan, the nineth month on the Islamic calendar represents a month of fasting and prayers that holds profound significance for Muslims as it marks the commemoration of the revelation of the Qur’an to Prophet Mohammed.

The GHANBATT Imam, Lieutenant Sahmu-Deen Ridwan, noted in his sermon that, although Ramadan 2024 has ended, all must continue to stay steadfast and observe the subsequent fasting and optional prayers as Muslims to achieve piety as stipulated in the Muslim Calendar. “The Almighty Allah decreed upon us the fasting in the month of Ramadan in order to achieve Piety (Qur’an 2:183)”. He added.

He reminded all present that the Ramadan period required a practice devoid of vices hence charged them to continue to live chaste lives. He entreated them to continue to share love, tolerance and be happy because it was a day every Muslim must enjoy. He however advised that the Eid celebration should be within the confines of Islam.

The Commanding Officer UNMISS GH 11, Lieutenant Colonel Dominic Ampomah read the Chief of the Army Staff’s Eid-Ul-Fitr message to all Muslims. He also expressed his honor to be part of the celebration of the important and holiest events on the Muslim calendar.

He thanked the Almighty Allah for his countless blessings upon all those who took part in the fasting as well as protection over all in the execution of their duty for a successful mission.  He beseeched all to live in harmony and continue to reflect the lessons learnt during the 30 days of fasting and prayers.
