The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Ghana Battalion (GHANBATT) 11 has observed its end-of-tour Thanksgiving Service, themed “Thanking God for His Love and Kindness,” at the Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC), Michel Camp, on Sunday 20 October 2024. During his sermon, Chaplain Reverend Father Major Richmond Klottey expressed heartfelt gratitude to God for the safe and successful return of UNMISS 11. He reflected on the challenges faced during their mission, emphasising that God’s empowerment provided the strength and courage for GHANBATT to navigate moments of danger and uncertainty. The Guest of Honour, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General Bismark Kwesi Onwona, commended personnel of GHANBATT 11 for their professionalism and dedication throughout the mission. He acknowledged the battalion’s contributions toward the UN mandate, emphasising their commitment to international peace and security, and recognising their tireless efforts in civic activities that brought hope and relief to local communities in South Sudan. Major General Onwona also appreciated the Commander Rear Lieutenant Colonel Frank Adams, for ensuring the effective management of the Unit and expressed gratitude to the spouses and families of the GHANBATT personnel. He emphasised the need for collaboration between the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police to maintain a peaceful electoral process, urging all personnel to fulfil their roles with the utmost professionalism.Furthermore, the COAS advised UNMISS 11 personnel to exercise caution regarding financial investments, encouraging them to seek guidance from trusted sources to ensure prudent financial decisions. In his remarks, the Commanding Officer of UNMISS 11, Colonel Dominic Ampomah, expressed gratitude to God for the successful completion of the mission despite various challenges. He acknowledged the physical and spiritual protection they received throughout their operational activities and attributed their high performance and achievements to discipline, dedication, and professionalism. He also appreciated the Military High Command for their support.
