A transfer of authority parade was held to mark the official handover of operational responsibility from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Ghana Battalion 90 (GHANBATT 90) to UNIFIL GHANBATT 91. The ceremony took place on Thursday 12 September 2024 at Seth Obeng Camp, Al Qawzah, Lebanon.

The event marked the transition between the outgoing Commanding Officer (CO) of UNIFIL GHANBATT 90, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Frank Kwesi Agyemang, and the incoming CO of UNIFIL GHANBATT 91, Lt Col Isaac Kobe Boako.

In his remarks, Lt Col Agyemang expressed confidence that Lt Col Boako and his team would continue to uphold the battalion's values and excel in their mission. He thanked God for the success achieved during his tenure and expressed gratitude to the mission leadership and military hierarchy for the opportunity to serve.

The Sector West Commander, Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Stefano Messina, praised the outgoing CO, Lt Col Agyemang, and his troops for their commitment, dedication, and determination. He congratulated the incoming CO, Lt Col Boako, and encouraged his team to maintain Ghana's high standards and ensure the nation’s flag continues to fly high.

Brig Gen Messina underscored the critical role of GHANBATT, which oversees the longest stretch of the blue line in Sector West and emphasised the importance of the battalion’s mission. He concluded by highlighting that the Ghanaian contingent contributes the largest number of female peacekeepers and is committed to gender equality and inclusive participation in peacekeeping operations, as reinforced by United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325.
