Students and faculty members of the National Institute of Security Studies (NISS) Nigeria, have commenced a study tour of Ghana on Tuesday 18 June 2024, with a visit to the General Headquarters (GHQ), Burma Camp.

The week-long study tour under the theme “Artificial Intelligence, Security, and Emerging Economies in Africa; Challenges and Prospects”, aims to explore the power of artificial intelligence in defense, security, and economic development.

This tour would also equip the participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to tackle dynamic and complex security challenges. It would also foster inter-agency synergy and international cooperation, underlining their pivotal role in shaping the future of security.

Welcoming the delegation to GHQ, the Chief of Staff, Major General Joseph Prince Osei-Owusu, expressed optimism for a continued bilateral collaboration between both countries and wished the delegation a pleasant study tour.

Leader of the delegation, Director of Coordination and Liaison Esther Emiloye Oyeyele intimated that both countries are keen on developing the existing bilateral relations and hoped that the tour would not only furnish them with Ghana’s experience with artificial intelligence but also strengthen the ties between the two nations.

Later, the delegation was briefed on current security challenges and the security architecture of Ghana. The delegation was also given a lecture on Cyber-security Management, Cyber Threat Intelligence, and Data Security against Artificial Intelligence.

The delegation would visit the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology & Innovation (MESTI), Ministry of Defence, Ministry of National Security, and Kofi Annan ICT Centre and other institutions relevant to the tour.
