The Headquarters Northern Command has commenced a seven-week Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) Orientation Cadre on Tuesday 28 January 2025, to enhance troop operational efficiency and combat readiness.

The program which covers both theoretical, practical sessions, and real-world scenarios aims to equip personnel with the necessary skills to effectively operate the Tygra APCs deployed in their area of responsibility.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Northern Command, Brigadier General Frank Nartey Tei, highlighted the importance of training in addressing the unique security challenges in the northern sector.

"Internal security within the administrative regions continues to engage the attention of the Military High Command. The evolving security threats in the Northern Sector require robust measures by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to ensure peace and security," he added.

He explained that the resurgence of ethnic conflicts, coupled with the assessment of imminent terrorist threats to Ghana, has led the Military High Command to prioritise the safety of troops and provided logistics includes Tygra APCs to support force protection efforts.

The initiative he noted formed part of the strategy to enhance the operations of the Joint Task Force in Bawku and the Northern Command.

Brigadier General Tei urged participants to take the training seriously and adopt a defensive driving approach to prevent accidents, ensuring the safety of both troops on board and road users.
