The Ghana Navy has on Friday, 22 August 2025 officially flagged off GNS Achimota to participate in Operation ANOUANZE III, a multinational joint maritime security exercise under the auspices of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The operation falls within ECOWAS Zone F maritime domain and is scheduled to run from 25 to 28 August 2025. The Flag Officer Commanding Naval Logistics, Commodore Eric Osei noted that the exercise would be conducted by the Ghana Navy and the Ivorian Navy as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen regional collaboration in safeguarding the Gulf of Guinea. He explained that the operation aims at securing the transboundary maritime area of Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire while providing an opportunity for the two nations to conduct a concurrent blue boundary inspection to ensure the integrity of maritime borders. Commodore Osei emphasised that Operation ANOUANZE III reflects the shared commitment of participating nations to peace, security and cooperation in the Gulf of Guinea. He urged personnel on board GNS Achimota to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and vigilance throughout the exercise.
