The Armed Forces of Ghana and Germany have held a leadership seminar at the Ghana Armed Forces Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Headquarters, Whistler Barracks, Teshie, from 15 to 16 October 2024. The two-day seminar, termed the “Armed Forces of Ghana-German Bilateral Leadership Seminar,” brought together officers, leadership and security risk consultants to share knowledge, expertise, and best practices in military and global leadership. The Guest of Honour, the Deputy Commandant TRADOC, Commodore Prosper Modey, stated that the Armed Forces of Ghana and Germany have enjoyed long-standing relations founded on mutual understanding and trust. He emphasised that leadership is a crucial aspect of military personnel’s roles, noting, “Leadership is not about rank or position; it is about influence, character, and decision-making.” Commodore Modey expressed profound gratitude to the German team, led by Lieutenant Colonel Freiderick Von Bismarck, for sharing insights into the German Leadership Development and Civic Education Institution, as well as Armed Forces and leadership concepts.Some topics discussed included Effective Military Leadership in a VUCA World, Navigating the Challenges of 21st Century Military Leadership, and Balancing Military Leadership with Emotional Intelligence. Additional topics included Democratic Control of the Armed Forces: A German Perspective, Constitutional Involvement of the Bundeswehr, Reconciling Family and Service, and Rights and Duties of the Soldier.
