The Ghana Armed Forces Medical Services (GAFMS) held its 7th Annual Performance Review at the Vice Admiral Owusu Ansah Hall, Naval Headquarters, Burma Camp.The aim for the conference was to take stock of healthcare services delivery by GAFMS facilities to service personnel, families and their dependents, Defence Civilian Staff and the general public. It was also aimed at reviewing and developing strategies to improve the delivery of services by GAFMS facilities. The conference which was under the theme “Making the Ghana Armed Forces Medical Services Facilities Patient-Friendly”, witnessed some government health bodies such as the National Health Insurance (NHIS) and the Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA). The Medical Reception Stations (MRSs) at all Military Barracks, the Kumasi Military Hospital, the Critical Care Hospital, the 37 Military Hospital and the GAFMS Directorate gave accounts on their activities, challenges and recommendation for assessment on their overall work output in the year 2023 and how to make their facilities more accessible and effective in the coming years. The Information Technology Manager of NHIS, Mr. Kwesi Kwakye Marfo and representative from the Quality Assurance Directorate NHIS Miss Abigail Asante took participants through NHIS Electronic Claim Process and Credential. They explained the process through which MRSs and Tertiary Health Institutions in GAF can access NHIS claims to boost the effectiveness of medical treatment and smooth running of their institutions. The registrar of HeFRA, Dr Philip Bannor engaged GAFMS in the overview of HeFRA activities and the benefit of HeFRA to GAFMS. He emphasized on the accepted structure of health facilities that were certified by HeFRA and advised that HeFRA should not be ignored in the organization and running of medical institution since any health facility that ignored the supervision of HeFRA ended in a disaster. The Military Secretary of the Ghana Armed Forces, Air Commodore Joseph Adu-Gyamfi and his team briefed participants on officers and their career path. He advised officers to be abreast with Military Policies to safeguard them when taking decisions on their military career. He advised officers to go through the right channel when making decisions on their careers as officers. The Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS) Medical, Major General Raymond Ewusi emphasized the valuable insight and education gathered on the conference would enhance health care delivery. He urged all to go back to their various departments and medical outposts to continue to reflect on the theme of the conference with a view of making the facilities where they work patient friendly.
