Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and Waylor Nicole Kylie (WNK) Aviation, a company based in the United States of America has showcased how its new counter-drone device can combat cyber drone attacks on Tuesday, 12 November 2024.During a brief at the Command Officers Mess in Burma Camp, the Chief of Staff (COS), Major General Prince Osei-Owusu, commended WNK Aviation and its technicians for the briefing on counter-drone technology. He lauded their dedication to addressing the critical gap in the defence sector with expertise and innovative solutions that he said were crucial to enhancing surveillance systems. Major General Osei-Owusu stated that as advanced nations continue to navigate the complexities of modern warfare, GAF must stay ahead of emerging threats since the proliferation of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) poses significant challenges to Ghana’s national security. COS further said acquiring the device for GAF will be appropriate to enhance its capabilities to combat threats and track extremist movements considering the current happenings in the Northern part of the country. The Chief Executive Officer of WNK Aviation, Mr Waylon Richard Carlson, revealed that the device Titan is a game-changer in counter-drone technology, offering unparalleled detection, tracking, and neutralization capabilities. He added that his team has worked tirelessly to develop a comprehensive solution addressing the growing drone threat. On features and capabilities, Mr Waylon said Titan boasts advanced radar and sensor fusion, enabling detection of drones at certain distances whilst its system can neutralize drones using targeted radio frequency disruption or cyber takeover. He added that the Titan has demonstrated exceptional performance in various environmental conditions, including urban and rural settings as it is being used in Europe and Ukraine. He mentioned that the device complies with international regulations and standards for counter-drone technology, and addresses the critical need for effective counter-drone solutions in various sectors, including military, law enforcement, and civil aviation.The demonstration was under the supervision of the 17 Army Signal Brigade Commander, Brigade General (Brig Gen) Anthony Ntem, Director General Procurement, Research & Development, Brig Gen Adu-Brempong, Commanding Officer Signal Training School, Lieutenant Colonel Abraham Tetteh and the In-charge drone training at Signal Training School, Mr Kofi Owusu-Adusei. The exercise was held at the Air Force Special Forces Flight Training Camp at Afienya in Accra and Daboya in the Northern region respectively.
