GAF ORGANISES SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAMME 2024

GAF holds eight weeks intensive skills training programme for spouses, dependent, female personnel, Defence Civilian Staff (DCS) and the general public.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has organised an eight-week skills training programme at the Anglican Church, Burma Camp from Monday 15 January to Thursday 14 March, 2024.

The programme which attracted three hundred and fifty (350) participants aims at training and empowering spouses, dependent, female personnel and Defence Civilian Staff (DCS) as well as members of the general public with employable skills to support themselves and their families.

The training was held in 1, 2 and 5 Garrisons within GAF. Participants were trained in beads making, paper bags making, decorations, make-up, fascinator, mushroom farming, fish farming, snail farming, preservation, bio digester confectionaries, and some selected foods. Others include packaging and marketing of the products.

The Guest of Honour, for the closing ceremony, the Acting Director General Department of Religious Affairs, Colonel Dr Apostle Benjamin Godson Kumi Wood, on behalf of Chief of the Defence Staff Lieutenant General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, expressed delight for the graduation. Adding that the training was visible with the various practical works exhibited by participants.

Colonel Kumi-Wood stated that despite the financial challenges, the training was successful due to effective planning and execution of the programme by the coordinators and facilitators. He expressed gratitude to the facilitators, coordinators and Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff (Administration) for their collective effort in making the training successful. He also extended his appreciation to Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) for their financial support.

The Director Religious Affairs Ghana Navy and National Coordinator for GAF Skills Training, Commander Benedict David Quayson, was grateful to the Almighty God for a successful completion of the Command Skills Training programme. He stated that personnel have been equipped with sound employable skills to help ease their financial burden.

He also congratulated the participants for the seriousness and commitment exhibited throughout the training, advising them to put their skills into practice to help themselves and society as a whole.
