Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in collaboration with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has held the annual constitution week on Wednesday 8 May, 2024 at Burma Hall in Burma Camp. The event dubbed ‘Together we can build Ghana so get involved’ aims at creating unity in strength and working together in order to accomplish peace before, during and after the 2024 general elections. The Director of Education, Colonel Mitchel Y Borbi in a welcome address, mentioned that it was vital to convey the Ghana Armed Forces mandate to ensure free and fair elections and also called on the citizenry to uphold the constitution at all times.During the lecture, the Director of Programmes at NCCE, Dr Mohammed Imrana said Ghana has been widely recognized as a democratic role model. He highlighted the country’s record of successfully conducting elections and transferring power eight consecutive times. He further elaborated that as development hinges on peace, it was crucial for citizens to abide by the guidelines in the constitution. Dr Imrana added that recent coup d’états and violent extremism in neighboring countries threatens the democratic gains of Ghana. He advised that lingering tensions along partisan, ethnic, and religious lines are factors that poses threat to Ghana’s democracy hence urged the security services to ensure peace before, during and after the elections. The Director General, Department of Civilian Establishment, Brigadier General Anita Asmah in a closing remark indicated that there was the need for all to sustain and protect the democratic environment. She commended the participants for their performance and urged them to be activists for upholding the constitution at all times in order to build a peaceful and stable Ghana.
