On Monday, 11 November 2024, ECOMIG Ghana Company 8 (GHANCOY 8) joined the global commemoration of Remembrance Day in a solemn ceremony held in Barra.

The event was graced by the Ghanaian Contingent Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Abraham Puoriyelle Dery, alongside traditional and religious leaders from the Barra and Essau communities, as well as representatives of the Gambian Defence and Security Forces (GDSF).

The Guest of Honour, the Mayor of the North Bank Region, Hon Papa Tukara, joined the Ghanaian contingent in paying tribute to the fallen heroes.

The ceremony was marked by significant protocols, including the laying of wreaths to honour the memory of those who paid the ultimate price in pursuit of global peace during World Wars I and II. Three wreaths were laid on behalf of uniformed personnel who lost their lives, personnel of ECOMIG GHANCOY 8, and traditional leaders, communities, and their families for their sacrifices toward world peace.
