A delegation led by the Clerk to Parliament, Mr Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror Esq has paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong on Wednesday, 27 August 2025 at the General Headquarters.

The visit was aimed at presenting the Democracy Cup trophy to CDS and officially to invite the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to the second edition of the competition.

In his remarks, Mr Djietror explained that the Democracy Cup initiative was launched in 2024 at the direction of the Speaker of Parliament, Right Honourable Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin to promote civic engagement, unity, and democratic values through sport.

He added that football as a unifying tool in Ghana has been essential in fostering national cohesion and unity even in tensed situations as perceived during the last elections.

The Chief of the Naval Staff, and Acting Chief of the Defence Staff, Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing expressed appreciation to Parliament for choosing GAF as the first point of call in rallying support for the initiative. He described the Democracy Cup as a commendable initiative for strengthening unity and assured the delegation of the commitment and presence of GAF at the event.

He further highlighted the need to focus such initiatives on conflict-prone areas, citing Nkwanta, as an area where such efforts at unity and cohesion are most required. The engagement concluded with the formal presentation of the Democracy Cup trophy.
