CAPOs receive effective leadership training at the Department of Civilian Establishment

The Department of Civilian Establishment, has held a seminar for Civilian Administrative Personnel Officers (CAPOs) in the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) on Friday 5 April, 2024.

The seminar was held at the Conference Hall of the Civilian Establishment in Burma Camp for participants drawn from all Garrisons to address their concerns.

Speaking at the seminar, the Director General (DG), Department of Civilian Establishment, Brigadier General Anita Asmah commended the Civilian Staff for their contribution to GAF and urged them to maintain discipline at all times.

She emphasized that CAPOs play a very important role in maintaining strong relationships between Commanding Officers and Civilian Staff, which sometimes demanded the use of queries to encourage good behavior.

The DG advised the CAPOs to sign the Civilian Establishment Memorandum (CEM) which shows update of civilians in terms of promotion, salary, posting and documentation among others and be abreast with all rules in the Volume IV to ensure strict compliance. She cautioned CAPOs against shielding staffs who violate the laws.

The Deputy Director General Department of Civilian Establishment Colonel Eric Annor, highlighted the vision of the outfit to maintain a highly motivated, disciplined civilian workforce capable of supporting GAF. He explained that CAPOs were administrative heads responsible for managing civilian activities such as employment, training, leave, promotion, and ensuring correct interpretation and application of rules.

CAPOs were given a comprehensive lecture on leadership including transformational, democratic, autocratic, and laissez-faire, and how to select the most effective to lead personnel.
